Speaking following the publication of a follow-up review, which assessed the PPS progress in implementing strategic inspection recommendations made in three separate Inspection reports, Mr McGuigan said the PPS had undertaken a significant transformation and restructuring programme.

“The PPS have taken steps to generate significant savings while implementing better performance management within the organisation.  It has also established a Serious Crime Unit to concentrate experience and expertise in serious cases, such as those of child sexual abuse and exploitation, within a centralised unit.

“While I welcome the progress that has been made in response to the original recommendations and the fact two thirds have been achieved with the remaining third partially achieved, there is a need for the PPS to constantly review and improve its performance,” he said.
