CJI Chief Inspector Brendan McGuigan has urged the NI Courts and Tribunals Service to continue its efforts to improve the use of the courts estate.  View report page

"Falling utilisation rates and the rising cost of undertaking improvement and maintenance work to ensure court buildings meet modern standards at a time when budgets are reducing means we no longer can retain the existing court infrastructure," said Mr McGuigan.

"We welcome the steps already been taken to rationalise the courts estate and in this follow-up review we have urged management to make their future decisions on affordability and need."

The Chief Inspector highlighted the progress made to date in taking forward  recommendations to improve the adequacy of the courts estate which were made in CJI's original inspection report in 2012.
