View full report page. CJI’s Adult Safeguarding report recognises the challenges for governments around this issue. Speaking about the report, Chief Inspector Brendan McGuigan said: “Adult safeguarding can only be effectively dealt with through a partnership approach between core departments, such as health and justice, social services and police. Improved clarification of the definition of what constitutes adult safeguarding would also enable the criminal justice system to better target those in need of support.” The report acknowledges positive recent developments in Northern Ireland, aimed at delivering improvements in how the needs of adults at risk of harm were met, for example with the PSNI’s decision to re-align it’s Public Protect Units to mirror areas covered by five Health and Social Care Trusts.
